Studio Build- Central Portugal

Zephyr is very happy with the new patio. We will finish it off tomorrow as well as the nice steps. There will be a nice rockery along the side of the building as well in a few days... Joules made a lot of progress today on the front wall, filling it with sand and other dense materials and made the s...

Studio Build- Central Portugal

Joules has pulled the cables (data and electricity) over to the house now and will connect them. We have also made the steps and had the tiles laid in the front of the studio and it looks really nice... Still a bit to do around the edges.. Slow progress..

Only for the control room drawing and I have to ask Joules if it is ok to share this before I post it. The rest is pretty close to the original except the right wall of the live room is no longer a rectangle: 5 x 6.27 x 6.2 x 4.08m.... This is better acoustically and Joules said even without any tre...

Setting up my control room for 5.1

4764 sand filled walls can be a nice thing but tend to be complex to build and load. however, building the soffit walls to be filled with sand is a definite option as the sand has mass and is a really good damping material. on a note about subs, mounting them in the soffit can be productive but req...

Joules and his assistant Suse were here working Sat-Sun-Mon (13hrs total) and they managed to get the floated floor down and two of the walls up in the control room. The floor was constructed like this: waffle pads, chipboard, plasterboard, one layer of acoustic dead sheet (one very heavy duty), pla...

Studio Build- Central Portugal

Joules has arrived and looks like he will be working here 3-4 days a week for the next couple of months. They managed to get the floating floor for the control room done today and will start to build the walls tomorrow.. Floor was made with 6 laters suspended on waffle pads.

Setting up my control room for 5.1

I like the idea of sand filled concrete blocks, cheap, very dense but like you said, not very portable. Paint them black or cover in fabric in the end.

Setting up my control room for 5.1

Wow Stuart.. Joules will be here Friday to start building the inside so these are things we can have a nice discussion about. He might not agree on all of them but he is very good and qualified to do this job so we will get it right in the end and have all the measurements to show just how good the ...

Setting up my control room for 5.1

Thanks Stuart. you wise words are always welcome. We will for sure not put the subwoofer in the wall now or the rear speakers. I think Joules and I had spoken about putting them on Stands attached to the walls as opposed to freestanding stands. As for what I want, I have not spent all this money to ...

Setting up my control room for 5.1

Hello Folks.. hope you are all doing well. Joules will start soon and we recently discussed the subwoofer and he wants to mount it in the wall at the front center of the room. Stuart and Glenn both mention the front part of the room near the middle but moving it around to find the best spot. If you ...

4729 ... ventilation ... about 600€ each at least and maybe it is not that much more to try to do a proper split system. With a split system, ventilation and AC are separate. Three mini-split ACs plus a building-wide ventilation system would be one possibility. From what you wrote it sounds as thou...

4736 Not having an outlet doesn't sound right...I think there may be a miscommunication at play. You can also use an inline air handler if you don't want to install mini splits in the rooms themselves, and that's how Newell seem to do it the majority of the time....But, Joules knows what he's doing...
