Ive Been Planning This Garage Studio for 10 Years!
44m2 is a reasonable size, but any chance you can make it even bigger? More is pretty much always better for a studio. The Recording Studio will operate as a rehearsal, recording and mix space for my own bands and productions after hours, and also my office during work hours. The Piano Studio will b...

Inside Out Walls - Treatment Options
There's only a small difference between the various types of acoustic insulation, in relation to low frequencies and small thicknesses. The single largest effect you can get is by making it thicker, and the second largest change is by putting it in the most effective places: corners. Yes, some produ...

Trying to Finish a Basement for Mixing, Recording, and Living
6083 Regarding isolation needs, I'm much more concerned with having a tighter sounding, balanced room. Street noise isn't excessive in this area and I'm not too worried about my speakers carrying upwards into the floor above. Drums will be tracked only rarely. Of course, isolation would be great, b...

Converting an attached barn in France
5998 What amount of isolation would I get doing a room in a room set up, with 2 double glazed bay windows/doors (2.5m x 2.5m) and say, 30cm between them? If each door gives me 30db of reduction, would that double using two of them? Not really, no, because there are other things going on inside the ...

5916 I do have a question and looking for recommendations regarding what to put on the walls/ceilings to cover the rockwool insulation. I'd like something that will hold the fibers from the insulation. I don't want the nice GoM fabric to be stuffed with insulation. I've seen a few guys use and put ...

Maybe you already thought of this, but I'd also suggest putting a small window in there, for visual sight lines between the iso booth and the rooms. Maybe even just a glass panel in the door would do the job. If that won't work for whatever reason, then cameras and video screens are another viable o...

Ahh! OK, that makes sense.
If it will double as an iso-booth, then don't forget to put cables and wall panels in there, for connecting mics, instruments, headphones, computers, etc.
And also electrical outlets, of course.

6180 however in discussion with an engineer friend of mine, he was concerned the room would be 'too dead' Yes, that's correct, and that's part of the plan! "Tuning" a room to get the desired repose isn't easy. Yes, you can plan the exact right tuning theoretically from the beginning, but ...

Hopefully this doesn't come out the wrong way, but why do you need an airlock? Is there a reason you couldn't just do normal 2-leaf walls with back-to-back doors? Do you really need to lose that space from your room?eightamrock wrote:Qr Bbpost The air lock was very complicated

Decided to finally reply to this. I suspect it is spam, but whatever: Give the OP the benefit of the doubt. And even though the reply is two years late: "better late than never"! Any good quality insulation is fine for what you want. I'd suggest either mineral wool or fiberglass, mostly be...

The "Walking Mic" test procedure
6174 The mic test tool also allows you to record and playback the sound to determine the quality of the microphone. You can try to record your voice and playback the recorded sound to ensure that your microphone is working efficiently. Actually, acoustic measurement mics are calibrated at the facto...
