Your design provides scattering and absorbsion as well, what do you think would be the difference between the 2 variations?

the solid one will have less absorptive qualities at higher frequencies.

Thank you! That truly helps. I want the one with the least high end absorption so I’m gonna go with yours.

I’m trying to decide what insulation to use for this poly diffuser. I seems like it would be an estimated 8-10” deep.
I would think regular low to medium density insulation is what would be needed. Is this correct or should I use a rigid fiberglass stacked?

you could use the light stuff. i'd pack it a bit to ensure even pressure on the panel to damp it.

Glenn can you tell me what radius or rise would this be?

Hi Glenn,

Do you know what the measurement would be between the 2x4 edge clamps in this design of yours for my vaulted ceiling? I experimented and calculated that if I made them 46.5” apart it would be correct. Does that seem right for a 4’ wide piece of plywood?

Hi All,
I did end up building a partial ceiling poly over 1/3 of ceiling beam in my live room and it solved the flutter echo problem in the center of room. Thank you Glenn for the advice and plans.

I want to gain back some ambiance in my live/tracking room and think the best way is to cover some or all of the large bass trap and moving gobo panels with diffusion plates of some kind like the examples attached. I also could do away with the ceiling cloud and install mostly diffusion on the ceiling. I would greatly appreciate any and all opinions on this.

Thank you for your time and expertise,

Jason

you can put a layer of slats or slot-cut panels to restore some of the HF energy.

Is there any difference in all these different kinds panels I attached in the pics or do they all including the slat style you attached accomplish the same thing? I definitely can construct the style in your pic. Do you recommend a curtain sequence of measurement pattern or just random?

Anyone’s opinions & expertise is welcome. I’m capable of building any of these different styles of diffuser panels to put over my bass traps. I’m just hoping to gain insight into which style would be best or does it matter.

Thanks All

in a live room - less important than simply providing sufficient HF scattering. in a critical listening space - you'd want to look at room symmetry, scattering of frequencies related to your sweet spot, etc. as for the type of pattern - mainly any could work but in most of my designs, i would put more HF absorption (i.e. more open slots) at the ear level and tight (i.e. low frequency) on the low and high sides of it.
